Borussia Dortmund Chief Executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed they expect just two players to leave the Bundesliga club this summer.
With midfielder Ilkay Gundogan already confirming he will leave after rejecting a new contract, the speculation surrounding the second name will focus solely on captain Mats Hummels
Hummels was constantly linked with a move to Manchester United last summer, and poor form for both him and the team this season has accelerated the rumours.
The player himself has done little to dispel the stories, and it seems both players could be heading for the same destination after Gundogan himself was linked with an imminent move to Old Trafford.
“No, there will be no major overhaul,” Watzke said in an interview with Reuters.
“Last year one player left [Robert Lewandowski], this year it is probably two.
Everything else is still open. So yes, there will be change but not a complete overhaul of the team.
“As for any of the other cases, I will not talk about names.”
More deals seem set to be confirmed once United’s season is over, so it won’t be long until fans find out if Gundogan and Hummels are Old Trafford bound.
