Louis van Gaal: ‘David de Gea has to choose between Manchester United and Real Madrid’

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has refused to confirm whether or not David de Gea will stay at Old Trafford.

De Gea has been United’s standout performer over the course of the campaign but has continually been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

The player himself has done little to quell the rumours and is yet to comment on the speculation.

Van Gaal admitted he does not know where De Gea will be playing his football next season.

When asked if he could reassure fans over De Gea’s future, van Gaal said: ”No, I cannot. But a transfer is a process, involving a player, a club and his present club. He has to choose.

“It’s not easy to choose between two great clubs. He’s Spanish and his girlfriend is Spanish, so we would be very happy if he stays. You never know.”

De Gea has been a sensational player for United and his departure would come as a huge blow given the fact he has almost single handedly dragged them into the Champions League this term.

However, supporters will know that there is not one player who is bigger than the club. United have lost players such as Cristiano Ronaldo in the past but have always moved on. Unfortunately, they will have to do the same with De Gea if he does make the decision to leave.
