Louis van Gaal looking for ‘more’ from Manchester United following Arsenal draw

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal wants “more” from his players following the 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Sunday.

Man United were dominant during the first half and went 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Ander Herrera.

However, van Gaal’s side allowed Arsenal to get back in the game and Tyler Blackett’s late own goal eventually salvaged a point for the Gunners.

Van Gaal insisted he is happy with United’s top four finish in the Premier League but added that he will expect an improvement from his players next season.

Speaking after the game, van Gaal said: ”We have not yet qualified for Champions League. It is always stressful as you can meet opponent who is halfway through a season already. It is not so easy.

“I am satisfied we have set our goal and reached that. From what I have seen of the fans they are pleased. But I want more as manager. Next year we will fight for more.”

Van Gaal has almost had a ‘free pass’ this term following the hugely disappointing reign of David Moyes last year.

However, fans will demand much more from the team next season. A club of United’s stature should be consistently challenging for domestic and European success, particularly with the amount of money that they are spending. With van Gaal at the helm, supporters will be confident that the next campaign can be a memorable one.
