Manchester United set to make bid for Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller

Manchester United are going to make a bid for Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller in an audacious move to try and bring him to Old Trafford.

ESPN and The Independent‘s Miguel Delaney reports that Louis van Gaal has identified the versatile 25-year-old as a potential solution to improve his attacking options for next season.

Muller has previously admitted his relationship with Van Gaal goes above and beyond the usual player/coach bond and that will be largely due to the fact his breakthrough at Bayern Munich came under the Dutchman after he put his belief in him.

With a price tag of up to £40m being quoted for Muller, he’d be an extremely expensive signing but as far as a Van Gaal signing goes, Muller ticks all the boxes.

He is versatile, determined, competitive and above all else would have a very strong understanding of his philosophy.

The last thing Van Gaal wants this year is to bring another set of players into the club and have to teach them all how to play using his philosophy again, so signing players who have trained underneath him before (such as Memphis Depay) could be a potential tactic.

Muller would be a stunning signing but he is very much Mr. Bayern Munich, so wouldn’t be easily tempted away from the German club. However, if United went in with the right offer, there’s a chance it could happen and that’s only because Van Gaal is United’s manager.
