David de Gea 7 Commanding, and made a good save from Giroud. An injury meant he missed his first minutes of the season.
Antonio Valencia 7 One of his best performances at right-back. Made some great tackles, got stuck in and linked up superbly with Mata and Herrera. Very good.
Chris Smalling 6 The stand-in captain played well and often brought the ball out of defence. Looks confident.
Phil Jones 6 Good game but clumsy moments once again, almost passed the ball straight past De Gea but came up with a superb, unconventional, header to deny Giroud whilst on the floor. Textbook Jones!
Marcos Rojo 6 Looked good on his return, nothing special but made a couple of superb recoveries after being caught out. Eventually tired and was subbed.
Daley Blind 6 Marshalled things much better than in the FA cup game earlier this season but wasn’t at his fluent best. Was unlucky to be denied by his own teammate for a second goal.
Ander Herrera 8 Beautiful performance from Herrera. Link up with Mata was once again excellent and topped it with a lovely goal.
Marouane Fellaini 6 Another good performance from Fellaini, distracted defenders for the goal and did well in midfield.
Juan Mata 7 Much improved after a couple of ‘off’ games. Dictated attacks and looked at home in the space Arsenal gave him.
Ashley Young 8 Another excellent performance and probably United’s best player. Got himself another assist and tormented Hector Bellerin all day long.
Radamel Falcao 5 Needed a new pair of boots but worked off the ones he did have nicely. Ran himself into the ground and made some good runs.
Robin van Persie 5 Barely got a touch as Arsenal grew into the game but put a half chance over late on.
Tyler Blackett 4 Struggled against Walcott and sadly put the ball into his own net. Long term future lies elsewhere.
Victor Valdes 5 Nobody expected his debut today but he looked good. Could do little about the goal. Unfortunate for him.
