Ander Herrera has had a fantastic debut season for Manchester United and arguably put in his strongest performance for the club on Sunday in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal.
Without question, he put in his best single 45 minutes in a Man United shirt during the first half.
When it comes to Arsenal, United usually concede midfield position and try to approach the game differently but instead Louis van Gaal set his side up to dominate in a markedly different approach to the counter-attacking mentality which he used at the Emirates earlier this season.
Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil were completely muted and outplayed by Herrera. Not just because he scored a goal but due to his overall play. He was magnificent.
It was a different second half altogether from United but the promise which Herrera showed in the first 45 minutes up against what should have been one of the toughest midfield’s in the league was fantastic.
Herrera had to bide his time at United this season. Injuries kept him out of the team and then so did Marouane Fellaini but ever since earning his spot in the team, he hasn’t ever looked like losing it.
Ever since Paul Scholes retired, United have struggled to replace his goals from midfield but with seven to his name this year, Herrera has shown he has the potential to start filling that gap.
Taking a look at the six players who United signed last year, Herrera would have a strong argument as the individual who has enjoyed the best debut season at United and fans are already looking forward to seeing how good he is next season.
