David de Gea wins Players’ Player of the Year award for Manchester United

David de Gea was named Players’ Player of the Year by his Manchester United team-mates.

The Spaniard was a class apart over the course of the whole season and was the outstanding choice for the award.

Although the likes of Ashley Young and Marouane Fellaini both had fantastic progression this season, there was never any chance of them getting the award of De Gea.

Looking back to last year under David Moyes, De Gea was United’s stand-out performer and his continued progress this year is a testament to just how good a goalkeeper he is.

Juan Mata will be delighted for his best friend and compatriot after he received his award.

After tonight’s awards, focus will go straight to De Gea’s future this week and although he wasn’t questioned about it by Jim Rosenthal, Louis van Gaal will have to face the tough questions during this Friday’s press conference.
