The goalkeeper had to be taken off against Arsenal last weekend later in the game with a hamstring problem and fans were concerned that it could be his last game for the club given the intense speculation over his future.
Although Van Gaal couldn’t confirm that De Gea would play, he made it clear that he wanted to start him in goal on Sunday.
“That I don’t know yet,” Van Gaal told reporters when asked about whether De Gea would start against Hull.
“He has trained today but only with our goalkeeper trainer. He still has a little problem so I want to wait a day longer because I want him to play against Hull City.”
It’s positive news that De Gea was fit enough to return to training but whether he plays in the match is another matter altogether.
Although it hurts to admit it, Sunday could genuinely be the last time De Gea plays in a competitive match for Man United.
