Louis van Gaal to help with transfer business while on holiday in Portugal

Louis van Gaal has no intention of leaving Manchester United’s transfer business completely down to Ed Woodward while he is away on holiday in Portugal.

The Man United boss is flying off on holiday this week to Portugal once the end of the season is completely wrapped up. It is Van Gaal’s regular destination having also spent time there last summer before he took over from David Moyes.

With a deal for Memphis Depay already wrapped up, United’s movement in the transfer market is underway but Van Gaal won’t leaving it all in the hands of Woodward when he is away in Portugal.

“Yes, immediately after the match we will have a farewell drink and after that we have a recovery day, and then we go off,” Van Gaal told reporters at Friday’s press conference.

“All the players have to fly out to international duties but I will go on holidays and I’m willing to go to my paradise in Portugal.”

Questioned on whether that means Woodward will be left on his own to continue with transfer business, Van Gaal added: “No, not to Ed because you also have a telephone and computer, so we are always in contact. As a manager, you never have holidays but I am in a better climate than here in Manchester. I am sorry to say that!”

You can’t blame Louis for wanting a bit of sunshine in Portugal after what has been a stressful season but ultimately there will be nothing but positive vibes going into the summer having achieved his aim of finishing in the top four.

Last summer saw United spend a record £150m on six new signings and with lots of changes needed in order to make the current squad capable of challenging on all fronts, it is set to be another very busy transfer window for Van Gaal’s United.
