Qatari league champions Lekhwiya have denied claims they have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie.
The Dutch talisman, who has scored a total of 58 goals for Man United, will enter the final year on his contract next season, which has led to speculation over his future.
However, as manager Louis Van Gaal begins to asses the current squad, the 31-year-old was last week told he was not guaranteed a future at the club. Due to his potential availability, the club from the Middle East looked likely to fulfil his £240,000 a week wage.
Managed by former Swansea City coach Michael Laudrup, the clubs General Secretary Adnan Al Ali told Doha Stadium Plus that there were no plans so far to sign him.
After striker Radamel Falcao was given his marching orders last week, it is clear Van Gaal wants to bring in players who can solve United’s problems of being weak in front of goal. After already fulfilling his dream of winning a Premier League title, it may be time to move on for Van Persie.
Coming towards the end of an injury riddled career, which saw him score only ten goals last year, Van Persie has not yet been linked with any other clubs.
