The rumours that Manchester United are interested in Karim Benzema have got tongues wagging at Old Trafford.
Radamel Falcao has now left Man United and the future of Robin van Persie is said to be far from certain, meaning Louis van Gaal is in the market for a striker.
Of course, Benzema, valued at around £40m, doesn’t get the plaudits he probably should do due to the freak of nature that is Cristiano Ronaldo, but many football purists consider him to currently be one of the best strikers in the world.
We asked our Twitter followers for their thoughts on whether or not Benzema would be a good signing:
@PeoplesPerson_ I would take benzema in a heart beat

@PeoplesPerson_ It’s a no brainer if he wants to come. Scored 22 in a team with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring most of the gaols. Great striker.

@PeoplesPerson_ people that want Lacazette should also be interested in Benzema, master and apprentice

@peoplesperson_ 100%. He’s elite, scores goals even when he’s not the main man with Bale/Cristiano. Exactly what we need as a striker.

@PeoplesPerson_ I’ll take him gladly. Playing 2nd fiddle to CR and still scoring 20+ goals. I think he will play even better as main man.

@PeoplesPerson_ I would take Big Benz. He scored 22 while he wasn’t the main guy, his passing is phenomenal in the box. Sign Benzema.

With Carlo Ancelotti sacked as manager of Madrid this week, United may look to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding the club by making a move for Benzema.
Although swap deals are rare in modern football, there is also the possibility that the Frenchman could be used as a sweetener in any deal for David de Gea.
However, it is important to remember that United are the subject of countless rumours once the transfer window opens. Supporters would be wise not to get too excited until the player signs on the dotted line.
