It wouldn’t be a ‘proper’ transfer window for Manchester United if we didn’t sign Nicholas Gaitan again would it?
This morning, Portuguese newspaper A Bola has gone with a front page splash saying a €30m deal to take Gaitan is close to being agreed.
They go on to explain the deal is ’80-90%’ done and that his agent Jorge Mendes and Benfica’s president agreed the majority of the details in their trip to England last week.
Furthermore, A Bola says Mendes was instrumental in the transfer and Louis van Gaal thinks the 27-year-old is ideal to help United’s team.
Now, there is more than one raised eyebrow following this latest news about Gaitan because, like Wesley Sneijder, he has been perennially linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Back in 2012, The Telegraph’s Jason Burt said a deal had been agreed for Gaitan to join United. He did, of course, never join.
Will it be different this time around? A Bola certainly seem to think so but based on past context around the Argentinian midfielder, fans won’t truly believe it until he is pictured next to Van Gaal holding a United shirt, no matter how strong the reports are.
