Bayern Munich submit bid for Matteo Darmian – report

by Sam Peoples

Bayern Munich have acted quickly and tabled a €17 million bid for Torino full-back Matteo Darmian, according to La Stampa.

The Italian has been in sensational form for Torino this season, thereby catching the attention of Europe’s elite including clubs like Barcelona, Manchester United and Arsenal.

However, it is Bayern who have acted quickly and tabled an offer for the 25-year-old if these initial reports are correct.

That being said, La Stampa go on to say President Urbano Cairo will accept a bid if it is raised to €20m, thereby hinting that further talks may take place

Rafinha is the only specialist right-back at Bayern as captain Philip Lahm has taken on a variety of roles under Pep Guardiola and is often used as a central defensive midfielder.

Rafinha’s lackluster performances this season are touted as the primary reason behind the Bavarians’ interest in Darmian.

The situation at Man United is a bit worse. Antonio Valencia has been Louis van Gaal‘s preferred choice at right-back, with the Dutchman showing absolutely no faith in Rafael the entire season.

This has led to Darmian being linked to United on a number of occasions in the past but with other clubs now in the hat for the Italian defender, competition for his signature is there.
