Benfica’s attacking midfielder Nicolas Gaitan is joining Manchester United one moment and the next, he isn’t.
The latest on him comes from Manchester Evening News’ Rob Dawson who has refuted reports which emerged from Portugal where A Bola went with a front page splash which caimed a €30 million deal to bring the Argentine to Old Trafford was almost done.
The report also went on to suggest that the Benfica president had agreed to the majority of the deals details in the Portuguese clubs visit to England last week.
It must be noted that this in not the first time that United have been heavily linked with a move for Gaitan. This is the case in almost every transfer window where a report from a leading Portuguese daily emerges claiming that the attacking midfielder is close to a switch to Old Trafford, only to be refuted by the British media later.
By this point, United fans are all too familiar with a transfer saga and Gaitan is clearly going to another one this year, not for the first time either.
Moroever, this time around, a deal for Gaitan seems to be even more unrealistic given the fact that United have players like Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Angel di Maria who can effectively operate in the hole behind the striker which also happens to be Gaitan’s most effective position on the pitch.
