Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal believes his side’s Premier League victory over Liverpool at Anfield played a big part in winning over fans.
Liverpool eventually finished sixth in the league table behind Tottenham Hotspur while United finished fourth to seal an all-important Champions League spot.
Van Gaal admitted the Anfield victory helped to create a positive atmosphere amongst supporters.
When asked about the result, van Gaal said: “I could feel it in the stadium and on the streets because people were so happy and crazy! I have scored a lot of credit with that victory.”
After Liverpool fans mocked United under David Moyes last year, to do the double over them this term was incredibly satisfying.
It is good to see Brendan Rodgers’ side back where they belong, languishing in mediocrity with no hope of silverware anytime soon. Meanwhile, United can look forward to Champions League football and the potential signings of world-class players such as Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan, Paul Pogba and Gareth Bale.
