After a fourth place finish in 2014/2015, Rooney has been quick to compliment his manager and the new practices he has brought to the club.
In a stellar year where Man United managed to qualify for the Champions League, their initial goal, Van Gaal has brought European football back to Old Trafford, something both players and fans wanted desperately.
When questioned about working with Van Gaal this past year, Rooney said: “It was exciting really, to have the chance to work under him. The record he’s got shows that he is a top manager and since he’s come in he’s been fantastic.”
United’s top scorer this season, Rooney netted 14 goals in all competitions during his first season as club captain. The former Everton man touched on the trust Van Gaal showed in him when making him skipper.
He added:“He had faith in me and made me captain. Seeing the way he works and his different style of management, it’s clear why he’s been successful.”
Despite a commendable year, United will look to build to bigger and better things in 2015/2016. The desire for silverware is not being ignored by fans or players. Both Van Gaal and Rooney have declared their ambition to push for a title charge next season, giving United supporters exactly what they want to hear.
