The 24-year-old has been subject to some intense speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United but it looks like Liverpool have jumped the gun in there first.
Reports from both Chris Bascombe and Paul Joyce suggest the bid from Liverpool was just £9m which is a paltry figure given that he is English, plays in the Premier League and has bags of potential.
There was never a chance Southampton were going to accept an offer of £9m for Clyne and Liverpool would certainly have to up their offer if they have any intention of genuinely signing Clyne.
As for the idea of Clyne joining Southampton, he’d certainly have lots of friends at Anfield given that Liverpool effectively tried to sign their whole squad last summer.
That being said, United really need a new right-back but Liverpool will too as Glen Johnson is leaving at the end of, so there is every chance both teams are interested.
