Reports have emerged this morning suggesting former Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao is a target for Chelsea, and he wants to join.
Chelsea are Premier League champions and already have one of the most prolific strikers in the country in Diego Costa, but Falcao would give better competition to the former Atletico Madrid man than an ageing Didier Drogba managed.
Falcao departed United last week after the final game of the season against Hull, managing just four goals in 29 appearances, a disappointing stat but he left with the affection of a lot of United fans.
Whether or not a move to Chelsea changes that or not remains to be seen, Falcao is now an AS Monaco player again, and the fact is the Ligue 1 club can’t afford to keep the Colombian.
The journalist behind the report was one of the first to report Juan Mata‘s move to Old Trafford 18 months ago and clearly has good sources within Stamford Bridge.
One of Falcao’s last starts in a red shirt came at Chelsea, where he continued to struggle amidst the constant rumours his loan spell at the club wouldn’t be extended.
The striker will now go off to the Copa America with his national side and everyone may have to wait until the tournament is over to see where Falcao ends up. The intriguing sub-plot will be whether United will regret not keeping Falcao on and that his poor season was simply down to still overcoming a long spell out with a serious knee injury.
United could well meet Monaco in the Champions League play-off in August, but it’s unlikely Falcao will be returning to Old Trafford with the French side.
