De Gea has just finished another excellent season at Old Trafford, probably his best, high praise given he was one of few players who could say they performed well under David Moyes.
The Spanish stopper once again walked away with United’s Player of the Year award post-season, and even made the top three when it came to the annual PFA awards, quite an achievement for a goalkeeper.
Speaking about his awards and the incredible talent he holds, Mata had plenty of praise for his close friend and colleague.
“He has a lot of talents as a goalkeeper but his calmness in any situation is what makes him special. For me he was the best during the season – I’m very happy for him that he won the two trophies [at the Player of the Year awards] – he’s done it two years in a row now and it’s well deserved,” said Mata.
De Gea’s future at Old Trafford is sure to be the on-running saga of the summer, with rumours of a move to Real Madrid refusing to go away.
With even their current number one goalkeeper Iker Casillas claiming De Gea should join him in Spain, it appears it’s getting all the more difficult for De Gea to ward off Madrid’s interest, despite Louis van Gaal claiming he’s confident about De Gea staying.
