Angel di Maria might have only been a Manchester United player for one season but it doesn’t mean he is guaranteed to still be at the club next summer.
Now, further rumours have helped take the speculation up a notch. According to Le Parisien journalist Arnaud Hermant, Paris St Germain have stepped up their pursuit of Di Maria and are in advanced talks over a summer move for the Argentinian.
Writing a response during a Q&A session on Le Parisien’s website, Hermant insisted PSG were in advanced talks with Di Maria.
He said: “I don’t think Zlatan will go. It’s difficult to let your best player leave, even if it is late in his career, especially because of FFP regulations. And yes, with Di Maria PSG are in advanced talks.”
We’re going to presume Hermant is insinuating Di Maria’s representatives, namely Jorge Mendes, are in advanced talks with PSG rather than the player himself. After all, he’s under contract with United and wouldn’t be allowed to enter those sorts of negotiations without the club’s permission beforehand.
On paper, it looks very unlikely Di Maria will leave Man United this summer even if he certainly underwhelmed in his first campaign but it won’t stop reports continuing to link him with an exit.
Hermant’s comments will certainly fuel speculation and intensity those reports and we’ll keep track of how this story develops as the summer goes on.
