Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has revealed that striker Christian Benteke has a £32.5m release clause in his contract.
Despite Liverpool being considered front-runners to sign the striker, Manchester United have been linked with the Belgian striker.
With manager Louis van Gaal in the market for a striker, Benteke would fit the bill as someone who is young and has experience in the Premier League. After scoring 13 league goals in 2014/2015, Benteke will be on the radar for many clubs.
At just 24, Benteke could be looked at as Man United’s potential long-term replacement for Wayne Rooney, as he is a proven goalscorer who could thrive at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal could do much worse than the Belgian in terms of looking at strikers to bring in.
At £32.5 million, he may be more expensive than many of the other alternatives, yet United have claimed they are ready to spend big this summer.
Sherwood revealing Benteke’s release clause indicates Villa are probably keen to cash in on their best asset and with United in need of a ready made striker who can hit the ground running, a move for the Belgian is plausible, even if it is somewhat unexpected.
