MARCA has today published their latest update on the future of Ilkay Gundogan and ran with some quotes which, on the surface, seem to confirm the Borussia Dortmund midfielder is in talks with Barcelona.
The Guardian has pulled these quotes and given their own update on the situation, declaring that Gundogan is indeed in talks with the Spanish club over a summer transfer.
“Yes, we are negotiating,” Gundogan is quoted in MARCA.
“I have not taken any decision yet but I’m open to all possibilities. We do not know where I will play.”
It seems that Gundogan’s quotes have been attached to Barcelona. We covered the same quotes yesterday and although he does confirm talks with clubs, there is no direct mention of which ones specifically, so there may well have been an assumption made with them.
MARCA go on to cite reports from Bild.de, which we looked at last night, that state Bayern Munich have pulled out of any move for Gundogan mainly because of his financial demands of €12m per year which exceeded their €8m per year offer. There is no mention of whether that is pre or post tax but that works out at €250,000 a week.
Barcelona’s transfer ban means Gundogan wouldn’t be able to register with them until January 2016 and although previous reports suggested he had undergone medical examinations for them, there is no confirmation of talks with any specific club just yet.
