Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has urged Hugo Lloris to stay at White Hart Lane amid reports Manchester United are preparing a move for him.
It looks increasingly likely that David de Gea will leave for Real Madrid this summer and Man United are reportedly looking for alternatives to the Spaniard.
Lloris has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, as has Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno.
Vertonghen insisted Spurs must keep Lloris if they want to finish in the top four of the Premier League next season.
When asked about Lloris, Vertonghen said: “He’s a great guy, great captain, great goalkeeper and a brilliant player for us.
“He’s the captain, very important and this season he was one of our best players. He’s been outstanding for us and if you want to continue growing as a club you have to keep your best players and Hugo is one of them. I hope Tottenham can keep him. It will be a sign for everyone next year that we want to compete in the Premier League.”
Of course, in a perfect world United would keep De Gea and he would help them push on domestically and in Europe next year.
Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world and the player’s exit from Old Trafford looks to be inevitable. United could certainly do worse than bring Lloris in as he has proven himself to be a top-class keeper during his time at Spurs.
