Juventus confirm Paulo Dybala signing

by Sam Peoples

Juventus have announced that they have reached an agreement over the transfer of Palermo striker Paulo Dybala, putting to an end months of speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United.

The Argentine, who joins the Italian giants for an initial £24m fee which has the potential to rise to nearly £30m, has agreed a five year contract.

Dybala scored 13 goals for Palermo last season and earned rave reviews for his performances in Serie A.

Juve fought off interest from several of the Premier League’s top clubs, including Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea, to get their man. The player himself insisted it was Juventus’ determination to secure his signature which eventually persuaded him to join.

Speaking about the transfer, Dybala said: “They [Juventus] made a real effort to sign me and this is why I made my decision. I can certainly win the Scudetto there as they are a winning team. I always play to win and can find success with them.

“It will be impossible for me to forget everything I’ve experienced in three years at Palermo. I was happy from the very first day. I know that to play for Juve, I have to do much more and I’m sure I can improve a great deal.”

United are likely to already be looking at alternatives this summer. With the departure of Radamel Falcao and the possibility that Robin Van Persie‘s days at Old Trafford may also be numbered, Louis Van Gaal will almost certainly want at least one addition to his strikeforce before the start of the new season.
