Chelsea are prepared to let Petr Cech join a domestic rival which could spark a battle between Manchester United and Arsenal, reports The Telegraph.
Thibaut Courtois overtook Cech as Chelsea’s No.1 goalkeeper last season under Jose Mourinho and with Euro 2016 coming up next summer, Cech will understandably want regular first-team football to prepare himself.
Arsenal would also no doubt be extremely interested in signing Cech because neither Szczesny or Ospina are top level goalkeepers, so it would be a real coup to bring in the former Chelsea No.1.
The question would be whether Cech would want to move to United or Arsenal if he was given the choice.
With Arsenal, he would be able to stay in London and they are on the ascendency having secured consecutive FA Cup wins.
With United, Cech knows he would be walking into a team that can challenge for the title next season following what is going to be a strong summer of investment once again.
United face a very tough challenge in replacing De Gea this summer but in Cech they would have a ready made, Premier League proven goalkeeper. That’d be a far cry from replacing Peter Schmeichel with Mark Bosnich.
It’s a surprise to hear that Chelsea are happy for Cech to join a rival but their loss could be United’s or Arsenal’s gain this summer.
