Robin van Persie has revealed he has been talking about Juventus with ex-Manchester United team-mate Patrice Evra.
The Dutchman, who turns 32 in the summer, faces a potential exit from Man United this summer and has already admitted his future is something he is considering after a ‘difficult’ year.
Lazio have been linked with Van Persie in the press but his latest comments indicate Juventus is somewhere he’d certainly consider joining.
“I still speak to my old mate Patrice,” Van Persie said.
“He has told me stories about how Juventus train, how hard they work and how they manage to be successful.
“They have a fantastic spirit – a totally different approach from English or Dutch players before games. They grab each other by the head, they shout at each other to pump each other up.
“And they also have big running sessions after games. Patrice has showed me there are many ways to be successful.”
With wages of £200,000 a week, Van Persie is one of United’s top earners and there is a strong case for Louis van Gaal letting him leave because he hasn’t warranted that sort of money for the last two seasons.
As Van Persie is turning 32 in August, this is the last summer United can realistically get a good transfer price for him and it would give Van Gaal a big portion of wages he can dedicate to finding a world class replacement.
Juventus would be a great move for Van Persie as well. The slower pace of the Serie A has allowed Evra to flourish once again and they nearly won the treble this year, so are certainly a club in the ascendency having also won the Italian league for consecutive seasons.
United need to be ruthless in the transfer window with both exits and arrivals this year, and Van Persie is one player who may very well move on.
