Manchester United reject Valencia enquiry for Victor Valdes – report

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United have rejected an enquiry from Valencia over the availability of goalkeeper Victor Valdes, according to Super Deporte.

The local Valencia news outlet reports that the Spanish side have agreed on wanting to sign Valdes after failing in their advances for Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas.

Valdes joined Man United in the winter transfer window but his opportunities at Old Trafford were limited last season thanks to the superb form of David de Gea.

The Spaniard eventually made his first appearance for the club from the substitute’s bench in the penultimate game of the season against Arsenal before making his full debut against Hull City.

Valencia lost their No.1 Diego Alves to injury on the final day of the campaign and he is expected to be out for six months.

The Spanish side enquired about Valdes as a result but they have been rebuffed by United as they have no intention of letting him go.

Valdes may well end up as United’s first-choice keeper if De Gea decides to leave for Real Madrid.

It makes sense for the club to keep him but it is unlikely that the former Barcelona man will continue to settle for a place on the sidelines. If nothing changes with his situation, it would be hard to begrudge him a move.
