Samir Handanovic’s agent quashes Manchester United rumours

Samir Handanovic’s agent has completely rubbished rumours that the goalkeeper has been singled out as David de Gea‘s replacement at Manchester United if he were to leave this summer.

Sky Italia carried reports which suggested Louis van Gaal had identified Handanovic to replace but his agent Federico Pastorello completely denounced them and instead suggested a new contract was close to being agreed.

“These are only rumours and media speculation,” Federico Pastorello said in response to the Man United reports.

“Nothing is true with regard to the Red Devils, I’ve never talked to them. I can rule out then, Samir going to Old Trafford, though of course the transfer market is unpredictable.

“Obviously interest from other clubs gives us pleasure, but Samir wants to win with Inter. Negotiations continue, and the final ok is close.

“Maybe a 90 per cent chance is a little high, but the chances are very high.

“Of course, everyone wants to play in the Champions League, that’s normal. Samir wants to achieve that goal with Inter though, even if the last few seasons have not been particularly happy.

“If Samir reaches the agreement, he could end his career at Inter.”

Handanovic joins the likes of Petr Cech and Hugo Lloris as potential replacements for De Gea if (when) he moves to Real Madrid, but his agent has made it clear it is a move which will not happen this summer.

Whoever comes in faces a tough task filling the void left behind by De Gea. He might not have had as much success as Edwin van der Sar but just like when the Dutchman left the club, United will struggle to complete replace him.
