Kevin de Bruyne has made his decision and will stay at Wolfsburg for another season.
De Bruyne was sold to the German side during the winter transfer window of 2014 and the Belgian international set the Bundesliga alight this year with ten goals and 20 assists from attacking midfield.
He won the Bundesliga’s Outfield Player of the Year award and has attracted interest from some of the world’s biggest clubs.
While speculation is one thing, the truth is quite another and De Bruyne has decided to stay at Wolfsburg for one another season.
Didier Frenay, one of De Bruyne’s advisors, told Bild: “Kevin has taken his decision. He will stay at Wolfsburg next season.”
De Bruyne also told L’Equipe (via ESPNFC) that the squad needs investment over the summer: “I have not caused any problems. I am going to take my time, but the squad really has to be reinforced because it will be harder next season to play both the Bundesliga and the Champions League.”
The kind of form De Bruyne showed was sure to garner plenty of interest and Manchester United were linked to the attacking midfielder.
These latest quotes prove that he would consider a move back to England and given recent quotes on Jose Mourinho, it would be interesting to see if he would choose Man United in an effort to prove the Chelsea manager wrong for selling him in the first place.
United have plenty of options in attacking midfield but if De Bruyne can replicate the form he showed this season, there are few teams in the world that would not make room for him in their starting XI.
