Although Depay will be officially registered on July 1 when the transfer window opens, these reports suggest that a press conference to unveil him wouldn’t happen until the pre-season tour began.
Depay will join this summer for a fee in the region of £30m following a successful season at PSV Eindhoven and is currently on international duty with Netherlands as they play Latvia in a European Qualifier on Friday night in Riga, Latvia.
Man United open their summer tour with a game in Seattle against Mexico City’s Club America on 17 July followed by games against the San Jose Earthquakes, Barcelona and Paris St Germain.
Louis van Gaal was forced to play last summer’s American tour with six players who would eventually leave the club before the season even started and he will look to implement the likes of Depay as early as possible in an effort to build chemistry between his players.
Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo did not get any time to spend with their new team-mates during last years pre-season as they were purchased after the league had started. United will look to do business early in the summer so players have a chance to adapt to their new surroundings.
Van Gaal has admitted he will be keeping up with transfers from his “Paradise in Portugal” this summer.
United fans won’t be too concerned with where the transfers are organised from as long as the correct players are brought in that will see them competing for the Premier League title come May 2016.
