Manchester United transfer round-up: Alves commits to Barcelona, Khedira signs for Juventus

by Ben Topliss

Here’s the latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip.

Man United were left disappointed on Tuesday as two targets chose to play their football elsewhere.

First of all, Dani Alves signed a new two-year deal with Barcelona, with the option of a further year.

Alves had flirted with Man United for a number of months but it appears this was just a ploy by his agent in order to secure a better deal.

The next piece of news came from Juventus, who announced that they had secured the signature of German World Cup winner Sami Khedira.

United were said to be interested in the 28-year-old but Juventus beat them, along with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, to the punch.

Elsewhere, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho indicated that he would make it difficult for any Premier League club to negotiate a deal for Petr Cech this summer. If Mourinho is up for doing a swap deal, Louis van Gaal would reluctantly let Jonny Evans or Nani go in the opposite direction.

Bernard Mensah is not a name that United fans may immediately recognise but chief scout Jim Lawlor has reportedly run the rule over him ahead of a potential transfer. The player himself admitted that talks with United were already under way.
