Jorge Mendes is a man who has his finger in many pies. From Angel di Maria and David de Gea to Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, he represents some of the biggest names in world football.
Last summer, Mendes dealt a lot with Manchester United as Radamel Falcao, Marcos Rojo and Di Maria all joined. This summer, there are plenty of conversations going on all the time about David de Gea and reports linking Karim Benzema with Man United have continued to intensify.
Whatever happens with De Gea this summer, if United are going to lose him then they have to maximise as much value as possible in the deal and including Benzema is certainly one way of going about it.
Having Mendes on United’s side with Benzema would play a huge role in any potential transfer as he’s the man who will sit in the middle of all De Gea’s negotiations.
Benzema is a ready made, world class goalscorer and that’s something United desperately lacked last year.
While Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo remain indispensable at Madrid, the Frenchman could easily be this year’s version of Mesut Ozil or Angel di Maria, two big named players Madrid sold in order to balance their books.
United need to play these negotiations with Madrid as strongly as possible and demanding Benzema to be included in any deal is certainly one way of going about it.
