Iker Casillas’ father has weighed in on the goalkeeping saga that consumes both Real Madrid and Manchester United in recent weeks.
Casillas’ future in Madrid was thrown up in the air following reports that he had agreed a deal to leave the Spanish capital.
David de Gea has been courted by Real Madrid for quite some time and with every passing day there seems a higher possibility that the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper will make the move back to his hometown.
Speaking to El Pais, Casillas’ father said: “He should not leave. Hopefully he can finish his career at the club that he joined 25 years ago.”
The decision will not probably not be made by Casillas and will come down to whether or not Real Madrid can prise De Gea from United in the coming months.
At one point, United seemed to have accepted the fact that they would lose their player of the year but are acting stubbornly in the face of an almost inevitable transfer.
If United can get a player like Benzema in return for De Gea, as reported, all hope would not be lost. If there are any positives to be gained from losing de Gea then receiving a player in a position that United need would certainly be one of them.
