Last year we had the 2014 World Cup in Brazil to keep us all entertained during the summer and although there might is no international tournament for European teams, we’ve got the 2015 Copa America to keep us entertained.
Pitting South America’s top 12 teams off against each other in a group stage and knockout tournament, the month long event in Chile will see one team come out as champion and it’s sure to provide some great competition given the quality of the players involved.
This year’s Copa America kicked off today with Brazil facing off against Honduras and from a Manchester United perspective, there’s lots of reasons to watch the tournament.
The main team who fans should follow is Argentina as Angel di Maria and Marcos Rojo will both be in action for them.
Di Maria scored twice in a friendly leading up to the Copa America so will be in confident mood and United fans are desperate to see him back to his best.
As for Rojo, he is likely to start in defence and there will be plenty of fans excited to watch Nicolas Otamendi in action.
The Valencia defender has been heavily linked with a move to United this summer but few would have seen him play, so it’s the perfect opportunity to see how good he is.
Elsewhere, Angelo Henriquez is part of Chile’s squad and has the chance to make a real name for himself on the international scene. It’s still unknown whether he will be a United player next year.
Antonio Valencia will not take part in the tournament after undergoing ankle surgery but fans might be interested to watch Radamel Falcao and see how he gets on as well.
