The Spanish giants have been warned off the Belgian goalkeeper with the hefty sum of £73 million attached to the player by the London club.
De Gea’s protracted transfer to Madrid seems to be on the brink of completion as the Spanish international has asked for the deal to be done but Los Blancos initially wanted Courtois to replace Iker Casillas before learning it would take a record fee to attain his services.
His contract expires next season and United may be forced to sell the player at a cut price as a consequence. Shockingly, De Gea may leave for less than what Sir Alex paid for him back in 2011.
There is also a train of thought that suggest United are willing to wait for another year and send him to Madrid on a free transfer as opposed to being bullied into a corner by the Spanish side.
United have no clear cut contender to replace De Gea as his development has really spiked in the last two seasons and don’t necessarily need the money that could be gained from selling De Gea for such a cheap price.
They signed Victor Valdes last January after the former Barcelona keeper trained with the club and are apparently now looking for replacements for De Gea but with no confirmation yet nothing is set in stone and anything is possible.
