Manchester United are closing in on their second major signing of the summer in Brazilian midfielder Roberto Firmino, according to reports from Brazil.
ESPN Brazil journalist José Elias has told Brazilian television programme Bate Bola that Firmino will join Man United for €18m and is set to undergo a medical this week while away with the Brazilian national team ahead of a transfer.
The 23-year-old midfielder plays for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga and has been in the spotlight this week after scoring Brazil’s only goal in their 1-0 Copa America warm-up game against Honduras.
Louis van Gaal is on the lookout for new midfielders and although Firmino played far more as an attacking midfielder last season, he is versatile enough to play deeper if necessary.
This is not the first time Jose Elias has been discussing Firmino. Two days ago, he claimed Firmino’s agents confirmed a deal and that he would go through a medical with the national team ahead of a move to Man United:
We asked a few people living in Brazil about the credibility of Elias and found out he has quite a good reputation, so this is certainly an interesting development for Man United.
We’ll do some more research into Elias and Firmino over the next 24 hours to find out as much information for you as possible, so expect this story to develop.
