Despite the transfer speculation surrounding Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea continuing to intensify, Spanish compatriot Sergio Rico has rubbished claims there is ‘tension’ between De Gea and Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas.
In a video posted by a Spanish TV show [see above], the pair appeared to snub one another at a training session for the national side and that has subsequently fueled rumours.
Reports from Spain yesterday insisted Casillas was on his way out of Madrid after changing his mind about staying at the club but despite that, Spanish team-mate and Sevilla goalkeeper Rico insists there is no bad blood between the two goalkeeping heavyweights.
“I’m working with them every day and the treatment I get from the two is spectacular, we all get along very well,” he said.
“There’s absolutely no tension, quite the opposite. We have a deep respect for one another. There’s respect and companionship between the two.”
De Gea has quickly made himself a fans’ favourite at United but looks highly unlikely to stay at the club past this summer with Madrid closing in on his signature.
Casillas leaving Madrid would all but confirm De Gea’s move there as the Spanish club wouldn’t let their no.1 goalkeeper leave the club unless they were confident of a world class replacement coming in.
It’s sickening to think United’s double Player and Fans’ Player of the Year is going to leave the club this summer for less than Sir Alex Ferguson bought him for fours ago, but that’s the situation United find themselves in.
