Real Madrid expected to submit £20m opening bid for David de Gea this week

Real Madrid are expected to make a bid for Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea in the next week.

The Telegraph report that Los Blancos will offer Man United £20 million for De Gea, who has just one year left on his contract at Old Trafford.

One thing holding back the opening bid from Madrid is that De Gea is currently with the Spain squad, who face Belarus in a 2016 European Championship qualifier tonight, where De Gea is expected to be on the bench.

Yet once the game is finished, Madrid will be free to accelerate their advances for De Gea who has been constantly surrounded by rumours of an exit since the start of May.

Madrid want to have the deal tied up before they jet off to Australia for their pre-season tour in July and if they can secure De Gea’s signature before then, the Spaniard could make his first appearance for them on 18 July against AS Roma.

De Gea joined United for a English record of £18.3 million for a goalkeeper, meaning the Reds would make just £1.7 million on the 24-year-old after nurturing him into one of the best goalkeepers in world football.

If Madrid do want to offer £20m for De Gea, then United should simply show them the door and keep him at the club for another year. It would be better for United to use De Gea in the Champions League next year and lose him on a free rather than sell him for an undervalued figure this summer.
