Mark van Bommel believes Manchester United’s newest summer signing Memphis Depay has what it takes to succeed at Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old was unveiled by Man United last week having been signed after guiding PSV to the Eredivisie title last season with a league best 22 goals.
After being taken under the wing of Louis van Gaal, Depay faces the obvious pressure of stepping up to the challenge of the fast flowing English game but Van Bommel feels he will have no trouble adapting.
“He’s made a good step, he is too good for the Dutch league,” he said.
“Depay has the qualities to play well, and he has the potential. It is always an advantage when you know the manager as well.”
Depay certainly has the drive to succeed at United but that is only half the battle. What he’ll need to do when he arrives at United is to make the most of opportunities which are given to him.
Next year will be the toughest in his young career but Depay feels ready for it and everybody who knows him has backed him to succeed, and the fans will be very patient with him as well just like they were with David de Gea back in 2011.
