Manchester City and Liverpool have joined the race to sign Manchester United target Roberto Firmino, according to Globosporte.
The Brazilian midfielder has racked up a total of 21 assists over the past two seasons at current club Hoffenheim and his agent has confirmed that he will be on his way to the Premier League this summer.
United were reported to have agreed a €18m deal with Firmino last week but there hasn’t been much movement with the situation since.
Over the last two years, no player has created more chances than Firmino in the Bundesliga so it’s no surprise to see plenty of clubs linked with him. At a reasonable price, United could certainly do worse than sign Firmino, who is enjoying a growing reputation at home and abroad.
However, it is easy to see why Firmino could be tempted by a move to Anfield. Brazilian team mate Courtinho is there and the pair could link up to good effect but United can offer him Champions League football next term.
If United do lose out on the player then they are not short of midfield alternatives.
Louis van Gaal is said to be keen on Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin and the club have reportedly slapped a €34m asking price on him. Meanwhile, United look to be one of a number of top European clubs interested in Juventus’ Paul Pogba.
