Here is the latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip.
According to Marca, Man United have asked for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane as part of a deal for David de Gea. The Frenchman is a sensational talent and would certainly soften the blow should De Gea leave Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Liverpool and Manchester City have entered the race to sign Hoffenheim’s Roberto Firmino. Man United have been strongly linked with a move for Firmino and it looked like they had been closing in on a move after the Brazilian’s agent confirmed he would be moving to England.
Liverpool, in particular, have stepped up their attempts to steal the player from under United’s nose.
Elsewhere, reports early on Wednesday suggested Louis van Gaal is keen on signing Monaco right-back Fabinho. United are looking for an upgrade on Antonio Valencia and United have been impressed by the 21-year-old, who enjoyed a fine campaign last term.
Fabinho would be relatively cheap at a rumoured €14m but United would need to cough up a lot more for Morgan Schneiderlin if reports are to be believed. According to France Football, Southampton have set a €34m asking price for the midfielder.
Finally, Nani has ruled out a move to Benfica. The Portuguese winger spent last season on loan at Sporting Lisbon but it is highly unlikely that he will be a United player come the start of next season. Where he ends up remains to be seen.
