The defensive midfielder, who scored four goals for Southampton last season, has been the target of a host of top six English clubs after announcing his ambitions to play in the Champions League.
Schneiderlin admitting he wants to play in the Champions League next year puts pressure on Southampton and gives interested clubs an advantage in negotiations for him, as they are aware he is keen to find a new club.
Speaking last week, former Southampton player Matt Le Tissier insisted that Schneiderlin may benefit from a move to Old Trafford over other interested clubs such as Arsenal and fans would certainly agree.
Schneiderlin’s style is to break up play. When played in a deeper role during Nigel Adkins’ time as manager, the Frenchman was one of the best in the league for tackles and interceptions.
Given how many chances United conceded last year, that’s something Louis van Gaal will be keen on.
There will be more than just United interested in signing Schneiderlin this summer but if Van Gaal wants a right sided midfielder who is proven in the Premier League, he’d struggle to find anybody better than the Frenchman.
