Franz Beckenbauer believes that Bastian Schweinsteiger should stay at Bayern Munich until a move to the USA becomes a feasible option.
Schweinsteiger has been linked with a move away from Bayern this summer having played for the German giants for the last 17 years.
Manchester United were linked and continue to be based on the fact that Louis van Gaal has a strong relationship that lingers from his spell at the German club.
Beckenbauer, who himself finished his career playing for the New York Cosmos, believes that remaining at Bayern and finishing his career in the USA is the best option for Schweinsteiger.
When asked about Schweinsteiger, Beckenbauer said: “Adapting to a different European league is difficult at his age.
“He has played with great force and put a lot of pressure on his body for many years. That saps energy. He could end his career in the USA instead.
“If I was at Schweini’s place, I would stay one or two years more at Bayern. Until then, he can still perform at the highest level.”
Schweinsteiger is only 30 and could still have something to offer a top team in Europe. The German’s relationship with Louis van Gaal could be a reason for a move to Manchester and provided Van Gaal understands what Schweinsteiger can offer, it could prove to be an excellent move for the team.
Schweinsteiger’s game is based on lots of running but with a player of his intelligence, adapting to a more static and influential role would not be out of the question. If Pep Guardiola is not going to play him next season then a move to United would be a wise one for the World Cup winner.
