Galatasaray manager Hamza Hamzaoglu has indicated that the club cannot afford to sign Manchester United’s Robin van Persie.
Van Persie’s future at Old Trafford is far from certain following a frustrating campaign last term.
The Dutch striker has been linked with the likes of Lazio and Roma since the season ended and Louis van Gaal is yet to offer him any assurances over where he will be playing his football next term.
Earlier this week, Galatasaray confirmed they had made an approach for van Persie but it appears they have now been priced out of a move.
When asked about the player, Hamzaoglu said: ”Robin van Persie is not on our agenda.
”The costs are very high. This year, we will be a little more careful.”
Van Persie earns upwards of £250,000 a week at United and it is unlikely that he will take a pay cut to move elsewhere.
Van Gaal may well have plans to use the player next season but it is a lot of money to have him sat on the substitute’s bench if he doesn’t. United have been linked with moves for the likes of Edinson Cavani, Mario Mandzukic and Roberto Firmino in recent weeks and it appears that van Persie’s days at the club are numbered.
