Manchester United are lining up a surprise move for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, according to The Sun.
Louis van Gaal is on the lookout for a striker this summer following the departure of Radamel Falcao.
Man United are interested in Atletico Madrid’s Mario Mandzukic but the player looks to be moving to Italian giants Juventus.
If United fail to land Mandzukic, they will instead move for Lukaku, who is said to be good friends with Marouane Fellaini.
Lukaku struggled at times last season as Everton went through a frustrating campaign. Despite this, he still managed to score 20 goals in all competitions for the club.
His signing would come as a huge surprise to United fans but stranger things have happened in football.
Strong and able to hold up the ball, Lukaku could be a good foil for the likes of Juan Mata and Memphis Depay. He would certainly represent an upgrade on Falcao, anyway. However, it is unlikely that United would want to cough up the £28m fee that Everton paid Chelsea for his services last year.
