Nicolás Otamendi is negotiating with an unnamed Premier League club, according to a report from AS in Spain.
The Argentinian international is currently in Chile with his national side for the Copa America, but club matters continue to surround the player, who is thought to be close to agreeing a switch to Old Trafford.
Otamendi’s future has been under constant speculation this summer with the 27-year old constantly linked with a move away from Valencia.
He contributed some outstanding domestic performances for his club last term, which were a big factor in both his inclusion in the La Liga team of the year and Valencia’s impressive fourth placed finish.
Supporters will be pleased to hear that Otamendi and his representatives are currently negotiating because it shows things are moving in the right direction.
Although the Premier League club in the report remains unnamed, there can be little doubt United lead the race for Otamendi’s signature if recent reports about the players future are to be believed.
With Louis van Gaal keen to add to his defensive options before the pre-season tour, any potential transfer for Otamendi will need to be completed quickly, which might require United to meet the player’s release-clause of €50 million in order to lure him to Manchester.
