Nicolas Otamendi is ‘desperate’ to move to Manchester United and has already told his team-mates that he is set on a move to Old Trafford.
The Mirror’s report suggests Mats Hummels is Louis van Gaal‘s number one choice this summer rather than Otamendi because of his more natural ability to play out from the back with the ball, which suits Van Gaal’s style.
However, there has been no movement in recent weeks with regards to a move for Hummels. Instead, focus has switched to Otamendi but there could be a stumbling block with him as well.
€50m is a lot of money to pay for a second choice signing but that is Otamendi’s release clause. Valencia are currently staying firm that is the fee which any potential suitor must pay but as United showed with their initial approaches for Ander Herrera, there is sometimes a difference in valuation between the clubs.
What is the state of play with Otamendi? He has been speaking about his future and clearly stated what his agent is saying, that he wants to leave Valencia, is correct. The Argentinian looks set to leave but to what club?
Reports in Spain suggest Otamendi is currently negotiating with a Premier League team and United are the only one who have really been linked with him.
As it stands; Otamendi wants to leave Valencia but they won’t let him leave for less than €50m. Whether they are willing to accept an offer or a club, potentially United, are willing to pay the full release clause remains to be seen.
