Luke Shaw feels Manchester United’s pre-season tour massively helps new signings settle in

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has talked up the impact of the club’s pre-season tour.

The 19-year-old had an inconsistent season, yet managed to show glimpses of what he can bring to Man United’s back four in the coming years.

Shaw was the centre of attention during last year’s pre-season tour when manager Louis van Gaal claimed he was not fit enough. The Englishman was seen doing extra training on his own following his big money move from Southampton.

However, this year Shaw is looking forward to the clubs tour of the USA.

“A positive pre-season can help you through the whole campaign, and it’s something that I’m personally looking forward to,” he said.

“Going on tour and playing against some great teams is something to be excited about.”

Following United’s slow start to the season in 2014, Shaw revealed just how important a good pre-season is.

He added: “It involves hard work for the players, but also for the coaches, who know what they need to do to get the players ready for when that first game of the season comes. Game-time is obviously important as well, you need games to get your match fitness back up.”

The left-back will be looking forward to a positive pre-season. Shaw was plagued by injuries last season and couldn’t get himself a decent run in the side. He will be hoping a good tour of America can help him on his way back to fitness and cement his place as a United full-back.
