Lokomotiv Moscow midfielder Manuel Fernandes has offered his advice to Manchester United winger Nani about moving to Istanbul and insists he has already made a decision over his next move.
The Portuguese winger spent last season on loan at Sporting Lisbon, having fallen out of favour under David Moyes and then Louis van Gaal, and had a good season with seven goals in 27 appearances.
Turkish reports suggest a deal for Nani to join Fenerbahce will be finalised this week and Portuguese born Fernandes, a childhood friend of the United winger, has confirmed having talks with him over a potential move to Istanbul.
“[Nani] has asked me questions about Istanbul,” Fernandes told LigTV in Turkey.
“I explained to him the pros and cons about moving to Istanbul. He has already made up his mind, however, it is up to him to unveil his next step.”
Thanks to the arrival of Memphis Depay already this summer, Nani has gone further down the pecking order at United, so it’s probably now in his best interest to leave permanently in order to secure first-team football.
The Turkish league is a big step down from the Premier League and a closer comparison would probably be the Portuguese league in which Nani played in last season. That being said, it would still be a challenge for him, much more of a challenge than a place in United’s reserves.
Movement is expected this week with regards to Nani’s future and it might not be long before he leaves the club to close the curtains on an eight-year career at Old Trafford.
