Sergio Ramos has told reporters that he is relaxed about rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United.
The Spaniard, who has two years to run on his current contract at Real Madrid, is currently in the process of trying to secure a new deal with the club despite some problems in the negotiations.
Barcelona presidential candidate Jordi Majo claimed to have been offered the player despite not speaking to either Ramos or the player’s agent and Ramos was believed to be angered by the fact that Madrid president Florentino Perez or a club representative did not deny these rumours.
Ramos is also believed to be disgruntled at having not been offered a new and improved deal despite turning out for Madrid over 300 times and captaining them to La Decima, the tenth Champions League title that the club has ever won.
The player was doorstopped by Spanish journalists this week but only replied that he is “always relaxed” when asked about the rumours linking him to Man United.
United have been warned that they may be being used as a pawn in Ramos’ game to leverage a new deal at the club and while this may be true, United must look after their own interests first.
If a player of Ramos’ stature becomes available, they should absolutely consider making a move. Louis van Gaal‘s side were crying out for a defender to lead from the back last season and Ramos would certainly fit the bill.
